Pray for Me.
Posted on Monday, May 12, 2008 at 9:17 pmHow often we hear these words, “Pray for me.” It’s a phrase that has become a figure of speech we say without thinking.
Asking someone to pray assumes the presence of a God with whom one may communicate. Further, we’re saying we believe the person to whom we are speaking knows how to pray and can get in touch with God. Finally, we are giving witness to our belief that God can and will make a difference in our lives.
We should never take for granted our privilege to pray or the loving God who listens to all those prayers.
I was at the “drive-thru” at a local fast food restaurant. I knew the woman was having a bad day when I saw her taking food to a car out front and it wasn’t theirs. She couldn’t find anyone to whom the food belonged. For some reason they were gone.
When she went back inside the supervisor was on her case about something else. I got the distinct feeling this had been going on for some time. My order was wrong and they figured out someone had erased it from their computer screen. This led to another tirade from the supervisor.
When the correct order came it was handed through the window and the woman, with a very sincere expression, looked at me and said, “Pray for me.” I don’t know if she knew I was a preacher or if she was just speaking out to anyone who would listen.
After pulling forward into the parking lot I stopped and said a prayer for the woman and for all the employees. I don’t know what happened but a few days later I noticed she was still there. I asked if it was a better day. She said, “I’m still working with rude people but,” and she smiled, “They can’t all be happy like me.” I guess she’s going to make it.
Prayer is not just for Sunday morning. It’s not just something the preacher does. Prayer is an important part of our everyday life.
Who needs your prayers today? Do you have a need? Have a wonderful day and, by the way, pray for me!:Prayer

Thanks for this great story! I have recently challenged myself and the leadership of our church to ask someone outside of the church to pray with and for them! And I have also challenged us to walk around our neighborhoods to pray. So I can use this as a great illustration of how prayer can be used!
