Archive for November, 2008

Through the whole month of October we have been raising funds for our youth ministry.  We had set a goal of $5000, and we didn’t do too bad.

Welcome to our new members who united with our congregation on Sunday, October 19, during the early contemporary service.  Our new members are:  Bryan Martin, Charles “Red” & Rebecca Howton, Paul & Susan Knight, and Andrew Knight.  May God bless each of you.  You have been with us for some time and now it’s official.

This Friday night, November 7, 5:00 P.M., we will leave the church parking lot to go to a traditional Amish Thanksgiving dinner in Croften, Kentucky.  We will take the new church bus (and the old van if we need it).

A few months ago I went on one of the trips, taken each first Friday of the month.  I had a great time.  I had to go seperately because I was coming from the other side of Croften from a Children’s Home meeting.  I got there late and didn’t actually get to eat but I had a good time anyway.

You know it’s a different kind of place when you first see the parking lot.  It’s full of cars, church busses, buggies, horses, and tractors; just about any kind of transporttion you can find.  The line for the food was long but moved quickly.  They probably fed over 500 people.  There was a buffet with two meats, several vegetables, fresh baked bread, and home made desserts.  You will also enjoy the company.

The Amish have these meals to raise money for their medical expenses.  They do not have health insurance but they help each other pay their medical expenses.  It’s kind of a self insured health plan.

Hope to see you Friday.  It pormisses to be a good time.

God Bless,

David

Upper Rooms

If you have any used Upper Rooms, will you please bring them to the church and put them in the box in the back hall.  We want to distribute them to our rest home and shut-in friends.  Large print editions would be great.

Youth Fundraising

The youth are still collecting donations for their youth program.  Donations help students participate in camp, mission trips, festivals, and retreats, and enable us to purchase curriculum and youth resources.  Please see the youth at the table in the hallway.

Pecans

The pecans have arrived!!   They are $8.00 for a 16 oz bag.  We have halves and pieces.  Come by the church office and see Betty.
