We have an unusual tulip that came up in our back yard this year. It’s a single flower that grew right out in the middle of our space. It’s unusual because tulips grow from bulbs and someone has to plant them. They are most often found in groups in some flower bed. Yet, there it was, standing tall all by itself. Talk about blooming where you are planted.
Now, it’s quite possible this flower grew from a bulb that was dropped there by mistake. Maybe there used to be a bed there and this is all that is left. However it happened, that tulip spread a good deal of cheer by just doing its best in an awkward situation.
If you ever find yourself in circumstances not of your choosing remember that lone tulip and try blooming where you are planted. You may be surprised by the positive effect a good attitude can have in a difficult place.
Just across the road from the New Chapel UMC in Hancock County, there is a field covered in daffodils. No one knows from just where they came. It’s assumed there must have been a house there at one time and that the owner must have planted those flowers but it’s all been forgotten.
Wouldn’t it be nice if we could have such an effect on our world, so that long after we are gone from this place people would still be touched by what we did?
Maybe it’s time we all planted some flowers, not necessarily the literal kind. When we sew love in our surroundings who knows what will grow. When you give of yourself to God by serving others, that changes our world and it will always come back to you somehow.
When we joined the church we promised God we would give Him our service. If you are looking for a way to make a difference, come see me. Together we will explore where you might bloom for God.
God bless, David
